Riesling |

 |
Germany's favorite son, and the grape responsible for making some of the greatest wines in the world, grows well in many areas of our country, including California, Washington, New York, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas and Oregon. Riesling thrives in a cool growing region, yet requires a long ripening to bring out its best characteristics. Perhaps the most versatile white wine with food, Riesling can be vibrant and forward in its fruit, with Granny Smith apples or near-ripe pears taking the fore, underlined by a hint of soft lime-like citrus, with floral qualities in the nose and honey and spice scents. |

Rated 91 Sorry to steal the moniker from the company’s Shiraz, but this is Classic Clare too, offering bold flavors of honey-coated minerals perked up by curls of lime zest. Firmly built and close to dry, you can drink it now for its power and fruit, or hold it up to 10 years or more, if you like your Australian Rieslings with more age on them. Wine enthusiast

Germany
Rated 91 A 2005 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese trocken – also at 12.5% alcohol - offers a gorgeous, multi-faceted nose of roasted nuts and coffee, vanilla, sage, sweet floral perfume, and baked apple. Creamy and full yet satisfyingly juicy and sappy with wet stone, toasted nuts, and vanilla underlying a persistent inner-mouth florality in a highly site-typical way, this finishes with polish, refinement, striking complexity, and an invigorating hint of citrus that practically compels the next sip.
